Speonk/Remsenburg Facebook Page Helps Keep the Community Connected

The page was started by resident and professional hydrogeologist Bob Mozer.

A new member Facebook page, dedicated to the Speonk/Remsenburg, Eastport and Westhampton communities is helping to keep residents informed.

The group page was started by area resident and professional hydrogeologist Bob Mozer, who wrote in the page's about section, "This is an open group I've created where residents of the community can post the goings on in their neighborhood. It could be anything from a community event you want us to know about, to something odd you noticed on your way to work, to something you want to know more about....invite your FB friends and let's see where it takes us."

Since the page launched in late October, members have posted about missing pets, local job opportunities, events, school board agendas and information about the Speonk toxic plume, which the DEC recently agreed to monitor after a community outcry.

Leading up to and after a DEC meeting late last month, Mozer provided frequent updates on the Facebook page about the status of the plume — Hermann Beck, chair of the CAC-west, has praised the efforts.

Beck said in an recent e-mail to community members: "In the event you haven't already joined, I invite you all to our neighborhood Facebook group. It's been a great way to stay in touch with the community on important topics such as the Speonk Solvent Plume (SSP)."
