Residents Galvanize To Fight Airport Noise

Meeting set for 6:30 p.m. at Quogue Village Hall

Members of the Quogue-based Hush Quiet Skies organization and the Quogue Association plan to make a showing at a scheduled Gabreski Airport Community Advisory Board meeting at 6:00 p.m. at Quogue Village Hall.

The residents have long-been complaining of increased noise at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton and in August they floated the idea of athat demands pilots use a runway at the airport that does not send aircraft over Quogue Village.

Residents are also concerned about a plan to erect 25 hangars on the property and say that helicopters flying as low as 200 feet above the sand are also posing an issue.

Gabreski Airport Manager Anthony Ceglio, has stated that this summer forced air traffic controllers to send more planes over Quogue Village and also noted that flights have decreased during the tough economy.

With the change in wind, pilots have been instructed to use the shorter runway, bringing them into closer contact with Quogue, he said.
