Public Hearing Set For Canoe Place Inn Project

The hearing will be held on June 12 at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall.

The public will have the opportunity to sound off on a project submitted  that aims to redevelop the Canoe Place Inn property in Hampton Bays.

Last week the Southampton Town Board set a public scooping hearing for Tuesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall to hear from the public on a zone change petition that is needed in order for the project to proceed. The petition asks for a change from the Waterfront and Motel Business district to a Maritime Development District.

The much-anticipated site plan, which was submitted on February 23, included the restoration of Canoe Place Inn, which sits on 5.8 acres, as well as  the construction of 40 town homes on 7.2 acres of canal properties along with an amenity building, pool, private marina and sewage treatment system.

The entire proposal is being treated as one , with a “swap” of development rights allowing for seven additional units – meaning 40, rather than 33 units on the canal properties are being offset by the community benefits. The application also mentions a benefit of an open space purchase.

A PDF of the hearing resolution is attached to this article.
