PHOTOS: Remnants of Hurricane Sandy Left Behind at Pikes Beach

The popular beach took a bitter blow during Hurricane Sandy

Situated in the middle of West Hampton Dunes on Dune Road, Pikes Beach took a bitter blow during Hurricane Sandy — and now, 6 months later, just as the summer season gets underway, remnants of that storm still sit at the site.

The popular beach was the site of a large wash over with sand stretching from Pikes Beach across Dune Road to the bay; the beach's parking lot unable to be reached by car.

Recently, Patch visited the beach, which is undergoing a clean-up by the Town of Southampton, which manages the beach. The parking lot sits with piles of snow fencing and storm debris. The beach itself recovering, but the dunes show signs of significant loss.
