Photos: First Annual Family Duck Race Event Deemed a Success

The event was held in Hampton Bays on Saturday.

The Hampton Bays Civic Association held their first ever duck race and family fun day at CowFish at Saturday where hundreds of people poured through the doors to enjoy a duck race, children's activities and food.

"It was more than I even hoped it would be," said Jacquie Russo, committee chair for the fundraiser.

Waiting to greet participants at noon, Bruce King, president of the civic, said he was starting to get a little worried when it appeared no one was showing up. Then, at 12:30 p.m. people started coming and King said, they didn't stop coming.

"They had two chefs cooking and they never took a break. The event was a blast," said King.

The festivities culminated with a rubber duck race, where some 50 ducks were dropped in the water at Jackson's Marina and raced to Cowfish.

The first duck to reach the finish line, according to Russo, was Duck #2, owned by Good Ground Yoga. The second place duck was owned by AllState and the third place duck was purchased by Quogue Sinclair Fuel.

King expects that with such success, there will be a second annual event with the possibility of a rubber duck decorating.
