Dune Road Improvements Still in the Works, Town Says

Dune Road was flooded again last week.

Southampton officials say they are still working to obtain funding to make improvements to Dune Road, which frequently floods, sometimes with as much at 12 inches of water after heavy rain storms.

Last week, the roadway, also known as County Road 89, was once again flooded with drivers treading carefully along the roadway, especially in the area of East Quogue.

Jennifer Garvey, spokeswoman for the town, said the town is awaiting word regarding a matching federal grant that would provide funds to raise the road. If the grant is awarded, the town, she said, will use $1.5 million in earmarked funds toward the matching grant.

It will, however, she said, "take sometime before we find out if the grant is awarded."
