Photos: Junior Firefighters Bake 1,500 Cookies For Widowers, Troops

The cookies will be delivered to individual homes on Sunday.

In an effort to bring some holiday cheer to widows/widowers, those who are sick and troops across seas, members of the Westhampton Beach Junior Fire Department baked them cookies that will be, in most cases, hand delivered.

The members of the junior fire department, which has been nationally recognized, baked the cookies — 1,500 cookies — on Wednesday night.

This is the 9th year that the juniors have participated in the community service project and earlier this year, Army Sergeant Jacob Lappin stopped by to thank the juniors for last December's cookies — he told them the cookies helped to keep the troops warm since troops were able to trade them for new boots and heaters.

On Sunday, the members will deliver the cookies and will sing carols to lift spirits.
