PHOTO: John Comba Turns 97; Fire Department Volunteers Celebrate

Comba is a 60-year veteran of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department.

Westhampton Beach volunteer firefighters didn't think twice about celebrating one of their oldest member's birthday this week. On Sunday, they paid tribute to John Comba as he turned 97 years old.

Comba is one of the department's oldest members, joining the department over 60 years ago and to commemorate his birthday, he was presented with a giant card signed by all the department's members and a birthday cake.

Comba first moved to Westhampton Beach over 70 years ago, teaching in the village school district for 35 years, also serving as principal of the Westhampton Beach Middle School and as a coach of the varsity baseball team. He is also is a church trustee and elder, a basketball and football referee, a builder of grandfather clocks.
