Motels Versus Apartments in Hampton Bays

Hampton Bays Civic members expressed concern over recent conversions on Monday night.

According to an article posted on 27 East, with one Hampton Bays and another set to submit a conversion application to the Town of Southampton, civic members expressed concern during their Monday evening meeting.

Members, the article said, are worried about increased density in the community that is already burdened with too much affordable housing.

Bruce King, president of the civic association, asked, “Do we want to be a resort or a cheap housing community? We are supposed to be a resort community.”

The town, according to 27east, is anticipating another application from Tiana Pines Apartments, which has been operating as a 16-unit apartment complex though officially a motel on the town's books.
