Internet Talk Show Host 'Occupies' Waldbaum's

Lisa Fox says this is not the last time that she will protest in front of Waldbaum's in Westhampton Beach.

After , who is looking to construct a new supermarket on Old Riverhead Road in Westhampton Beach, Internet talk show host , staged a protest in front of Waldbaum's in Westhampton Beach.

With a few friends, Fox, who interviewed Mendelson on her Vokle.com show Around the Beach, says she "occupied" Waldbaum's over the weekend in an effort to generate awareness over Mendelson's project, which has sparked controversy.

"I felt that due to the information provided by Mr. Mendelson, and the length of time this process could take, it was time to take matters into my own hands," Fox said.

Mendelson has long so he could present his plan, saying a new supermarket in the village is needed. However, the village board has refused to hold a meeting without official plans for his supermarket.

"Maybe the managers of will finally acknowledge that they need to step it up, if people are out there protesting and not shopping there," Fox said. "Have you not heard? The Time's Person of the Tear is 'The Protester.'"

Fox says this past weekend's protest is not the end.

"I will continue to show up and protest and hopefully others will join," she said.

Of the protest, Mendelson said, "I feel terrible that anyone would have to go out and waste precious time protesting a situation that government has created." He added, "Monopoly zoning in WHB has created this very lazy retailer. Competition will produce a better situation for everyone."

The manager of Waldbaum's, who did not wish to be named, said that the company does not have any comment at this time.
