Hamptons Offshore Invitational Raises Nearly $80,000

Some 61 boaters participated in this year's Hamptons Offshore Invitational, which was hosted by the Shinnecock Marlin and Tuna Club and spanned the week of Aug. 11 through Aug. 19.

According to the event's organizers, the invitational brought in $80,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

“I founded this tournament to make a difference in the lives of others,” Scott Horowitz said. "The funds raised directly benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island and help brighten the future of children in our communities who need it the most.”

The tournament kicked off at in Hampton Bays with a Captain’s Dinner on August 10 and anglers chose to fish either 4 days or 2 overnights competing in a variety of species categories. Weigh-ins took place nightly from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oakland’s Marina weigh station.

Organizers said that the tournament started off slow with small craft advisories in play for the first two days, but once the fishing began, the fish started rolling in at the weigh-in dock, including a 243.5 lb Big Eye caught by the boat, Outcast.
