Hampton Bays Shelter Re-Opens As Temps Drop

With dropping temperatures and residents still without power, the Hampton Bays Middle School has reopened as a shelter

In response to calls from residents who are still without power and are concerned about chilly weather this weekend, the Town of Southampton, in coordination with the Red Cross, has opted to reopen the emergency Shelter at Hampton Bays Middle School.

The shelter, which was orginally at the Hampton Bays High School, closed on Wednesday after serving some 300 residents, re-opened as of Friday evening at the middle school.

Showers are available at the shelter site, but residents need to bring their own toiletries.

Also this weekend, the Hampton Bays Senior Center will be open for seniors with special needs.

General information regarding access to and locations of shelters in the region is available from the American Red Cross at 924-6700 and The Southampton Emergency Operations Center will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and can be reached at 728-3030. The Supervisor’s Office will also be open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The phone number is: 631-283-6055.
