George Guldi's Bail More Than Doubled

Judge Doyle increases Guldi's bail at a hearing on Friday.

Former Suffolk County Legislator George Guldi faced another roadblock on Friday when, at a bail source hearing held at the Arthur M. Cromarty Courthouse in Riverside, Judge James F.X. Doyle more than doubled his bail.

Guldi's bail was increased from $500,000 cash or $1 million bond to $1.1 million cash or $2.2 million bond.  The judge said increase is based on the fact that Guldi was convicted of felony charges.

Assistant District Attorney Thalia Stavrides initially asked that Guldi be held without bail, calling him a "serious flight risk."

Guldi, however, said that he is a single parent, with a number of health issues that required medication.

Guldi, who was found guilty on Feb. 16 of insurance fraud and second-degree grand larceny, is being held at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility awaiting sentencing on March 18.
