Fall Leaf Clean-Up Starts Nov. 19

The Southampton Town Highway Department says only biodegradable bags will be accepted.

Leaves are starting to fall and that can only mean one thing โ€” time to start bagging them.

The Southampton Town Highway Department has announced that it will begin its annual fall clean-up on November 19, moving through six districts, starting in Eastport and Quiogue, to collect bagged leaves.

As required last fall, all leaves must be bagged in biodegradable bags. Leaves in plastic bags, the Highway Department said, will not be accepted nor will any brush. The Highway Department is also requesting that no bags be placed at the curb until after Nov. 1.

Senior citizens, 73 and older, and special needs citizens are exempt from bagging leaves and may rake them to the curb, according to the Highway Department. However, they must register with the Highway Department prior to the start of the program.

The Highway Department says that it will start its collection in Eastport and Quiogue, moving to East Quogue to West Tiana Road and Flanders, north to Riverside, then to Hampton Bays from East Tiana Road to the west side of the canal where, collection will continue to Shinnecock Hills to Head of Pond Road and to Deerfield in Water Mill. Collection will then start on Noyac Road from Majors Path, east to the Sag Harbor Village line, and then to the south side of Watermill to Sagaponack and the north side of Water Mill from Deerfield Road east to Sagaponack.

Those looking to get rid of branches, can bring them to the North Sea and Hampton Bays transfer stations between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31.
