East Quogue Voters To Head to Polls on Land Purchase Referendum [Poll]

The East Quogue School District is holding a referendum vote from from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Residents of the are heading to the polls to cast a ballot either for or across the street from the school district for future school use.

The polls are open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the .

According to Robert Long, principal of the school, the land, is a steal at $250,000.

"We are getting this property at below market," he said and stressed, "It's a really good deal."

The remaining $150,000, said Long will be set aside for demolition costs.  There is a house located on the property.

The district has yet to decide what the property will be used for.  Long said there are ideas floating around including a playground, ball or soccer fields or for an administration building.

A was held earlier in February and most in attendance were in favor of the purchase. The East Quogue Civic Association has also voiced support for the purchase.

In an e-mail sent to members, the civic wrote, "The East Quogue Civic Association Board encourages residents to vote in favor of this purchase and sees it as a responsible and prudent decision by the school district board showing they have the community’s best interest in mind."
