East Quogue Students: Turn Out Your Lights For an Hour on Saturday Night

The second graders are asking people to turn out their lights for an hour at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

Lauren Squires' second grade glass at is asking everyone to turn out their lights for an hour starting at 8:30 p.m. as part of a program, called Earth Hour, which reported that in 2011 some 5,200 cities and 135 countries went dark for an hour to send a message about climate change.

Earth Hour, said Squires is "the world's largest single campaign for a better future for a planet."

Doing their part, the students have encouraged their fellow classmates in the school to participate and have created a light bulb board that marks the number of families participating.
