Greg Rogan knows that he may have only months to live, but rather than letting himself become consumed in self pity or agony he decided he wants to do something positive with his remaining time.
Before he was diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer three and a half years ago, Rogan already had many selfless achievements under his belt, including donating a kidney and serving as a fulltime caregiver to his mother and uncle. And now, he has poured himself into a project to make sure that the community that meant so much to him growing up, and as an adult, Southampton Shores, will be recognized as an outstanding place to live long after he’s gone.

Wainscott Board Member Quits After District Accuses Son of Fraud

After serving more than a dozen years on the Wainscott School Board, abruptly resigned Wednesday amid allegations by the school board that her grandchildren are illegally going to Wainscott schools.

"Unfortunately, I'm very, very upset," Osborn told board members Nancy McCaffrey and David Eagan, and Superintendent , at a special budget-related school board meeting on Wednesday. "I don't feel I can be a member of this board," she said before handing a letter of resignation to Rachlin and walking out.

RIVERHEAD

Construction hasn't started. No plans have even been submitted in Town Hall. But opponents of a YMCA in Aquebogue are already organizing at the thought of constructing a 40,000-square-foot facility on Route 25.

Headlines that organizers of the Peconic YMCA were weeks away from signing off on an 8.8-acre parcel across the road from Vineyard Caterers. Though nothing remains signed as of Monday, a public meeting organized by the Jamesport Civic Association - titled "Save Main Road" - is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Jamesport Meeting House to and discuss the project.

Village Board Votes Against Purchasing Meters

In a last minute reversal, the Greenport Village Board voted against purchasing parking meters in a special Wednesday meeting.

The vote was 4 to 1 with Mayor David Nyce as the sole supporter of purchasing the meters. The trustees had already voted to bond for the meters in June of 2011 and were expected to authorize the purchase of solar-powered units Wednesday.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

A mobile home at the Hampton Bays Community Mobile Home Park off West Montauk Highway was completely destroyed in a fire Sunday night. There was a middle-aged man in the home when the fire started but he got out uninjured, Hampton Bays Fire Chief John Tedesco said.
