Jan. 19: Dispatches from the Court: George Guldi's Trial Continues

Trial enters second day of testimony.

Former Suffolk County Legislator is back in court in Riverside before Judge James Doyle as his trial continues. Guldi is defending himself against charges of forgery, grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and insurance fraud.

2 p.m.

Judge Doyle reconvened the trial after , which featured opening statements from Assistant District Attorney Thalia Stavrides and Guldi.

2:10 p.m.

Witness Lynn Burke, who is a mortgage specialist, was called back to the stand to be cross-examined by Guldi. Burke's testimony is expected to help establish the name of the company that holds the mortgage on Guldi's Westhampton Beach home, which burned down in a fire.

3:30 p.m.

Michael Thompson, of JP Morgan Chase Bank was called to the stand to be questioned by Assistant District Attorney Thalia Stavrides regarding the history of banking transactions and new accounts allegedly opened by Guldi. He was also questioned about the deposit of a check in the amount of $863,473 that was made out to Guldi and Countrywide Home Loans, Inc. The check is at the heart of the case.

4:30 p.m.

Thompson was cross-examined by Guldi. During the cross-examination, it was determined that Thompson had never actually saw the check in question.  Thompson was also questioned by both sides about a bank stamp that was marked on the check.  Thompson testified that the stamp did not look as most other stamps do.

5:00 p.m.

Judge Doyle ended the session, saying the trial will reconvene at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
