Crimes Nearby: Alleged Shooter Remains in Jail Pending Indictment

The following information was supplied by police departments on the East End. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Frank A. Hanna, the man  late last month, will await a grand jury indictment from a jail cell.

Suffolk County Sheriff's Deputies brought Hanna, who turned himself in on May 30, to  on Tuesday. Hanna pleaded not guilty to felony charges of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault, both felonies, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, on May 31, at his arraignment on May 31. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

RIVERHEAD

• Bernardo A. Benitez, 34, of Flanders, was arrested May 29 at 6:05 a.m. near the Jackson Avenue South and Old Riverhead Road intersection in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and an additional traffic infraction. Police said a passing motorist had called in to report a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway, and Benitez was found sleeping behind the wheel with the engine running.

• Jameula J. Carter, 30, of Flanders, was arrested May 29 at 8:34 p.m. near the intersection of Priscilla Avenue and Evergreen Road in Flanders and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, alcohol related, a felony. Police said Carter was pulled over for driving a dirt bike without a helmet or license plate.

• Collin M. Woodley, 54, of Riverhead, was arrested June 3 at 1:46 p.m. at Peconic Avenue in Riverside and charged with circumventing an interlock device and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, alcohol related, both misdemeanors, as well as following too closely, a traffic infraction. Police said Woodley was involved in a minor accident in the Flanders traffic circle and it was discovered his license was suspended for a prior DWI arrest.

SOUTHAMPTON

• A Water Mill man was arrested Tuesday on his fourth DWI since 1987,  that ended when he drove into a rock wall and trees, according to. Det. Sgt. Herman Lamison said that police responded to a 911 call at 4:21 p.m. Tuesday of an intoxicated man trying to drive a 1984 red Jaguar in the Schmidt’s Market parking lot on North Sea Road. When police arrived, Lamison said, 53-year-old James Burdette Robles got onto North Sea Road headed northbound, and refused to pull over. The pursuit continued until the intersection of North Sea Mecox Road and Kings Lane, where Robles failed to negotiate a turn and crashed, police said.

• William Morocho, 33, of Jackson Heights, Queens, was arrested June 3 at 2:54 a.m. near the Montauk Highway West and Flanders Road intersection in Hampton Bays and charged with aggravated DWI with a child in the vehicle, a felony, as well as driving with a child younger than 10 without a seatbelt, a traffic infraction. Police said Morocho was stopped for failure to maintain his lane and he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. There were two children younger than 15 in the rear seats, police said.
Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Drug Possession

• Richard S. Wilson, 25, of Noyac, was arrested May 30 at 11:30 p.m. on North Sea Road in Southampton and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors. Police said Wilson lost consciousness while driving and struck a utility pole. Numerous small white envelopes containing a white powdery substance were discovered in the vehicle, police said. Wilson was additionally charged with several vehicle and traffic infractions.
Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Intoxicated

• Matthew R. Lapiana, 22, of Noyac, was arrested June 2 at 5:58 a.m. on Noyac Road in Noyac and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs, both misdemeanors, as well as a traffic infraction. Police said Lapiana was in an accident and was transported to for back pain.

NORTH FORK

• Luis Osorio, 25, of Cutchogue, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding on May 31 at 8:29 a.m., after police stopped him for speeding in the speed zone on Route 25, police said. A Department of Motor Vehicles check revealed that his driving privilege had been revoked, police said. He was arrested, transported to Southold Police headquarters in Peconic and released on an appearance ticket to return to Southold Justice Court at a later date.

• August F. Ruckdeschel, 33, of Ronkonkoma, and Gregory J. Cimino, 24, of Farmingville, were each charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated on June 2 at 7:01 p.m., after police stopped Ruckdeschel for a traffic violation on Cox Lane in Cutchogue, police said. Ruckdeschel was appointed in April by the administration of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone to a job as a farmlands administrator in the economic development and planning department, according to a Newsday article. Cimino was stopped for following Ruckdeschel too closely, police said. Both drivers were found to be intoxicated, were arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where they were held for arraignment.
