Coast Guard Rescues Sick Fisherman

Crew members of the fishing boat, called Good News II, called the Coast Guard on Wednesday regarding a sick crew member.

Members of the station say they were called to rescue a sick fisherman on Wednesday.  

The 63-year-old fisherman, according to the Coast Guard, was aboard the Good News II commercial fishing boat, which in transet in the Shinnecock Bay, when he became ill and fellow crew members called the Coast Guard. 

The Coast Guard says they medically evacuated the fisherman, transporting him to shore.

Details as to the man's illness were not immediately available.

“We quickly transited out to meet the fishing vessel and safely transferred the patient to our boat,” said Petty Officer­­­­­ 2nd Class Patrick Rogers, the rescue boat coxswain. “We assessed the patient’s condition and administered basic first-aid treatment while we headed back to the station.”
