A long-anticipated public scoping hearing will take place at 1 p.m. at on a property in Hampton Bays.

The hearing, which was set in May, will provide the public with an opportunity to speak about the proposal, which includes the restoration of Canoe Place Inn, which sits on 5.8 acres, as well as  the construction of 40 town homes on 7.2 acres of canal properties along with an amenity building, pool, private marina and sewage treatment system.

The entire proposal is being treated as one , with a “swap” of development rights allowing for seven additional units – meaning 40, rather than 33 units on the canal properties are being offset by the community benefits. The application also mentions a benefit of an open space purchase.
