Brush Fires Caused Temorary Closure Of LIRR in Speonk

The MTA says service has been restored.

Long Island Railroad service has been restored after a series of brush fires along the Long Island Railroad track between Mastic/Shirley and Speonk forced the MTA to shut down service for an hour and a half on Thursday afternoon.

According to the MTA, Suffolk County fire officials requested that the rail line be powered down as a precautionary measure at 11:40 p.m. Trains were up and running again by 1:30 p.m.
