After Irene: Area Marinas Report Little To No Damage

Many boat owners already put their boats back to sea.

Marinas west of the canal in Southampton are reporting that Hurricane Irene caused little to no damage to boats, docks and bulkheads. Already, they say, boat owners are scrambling to get their boats back in the water as Labor Day weekend quickly approaches.

"We've been putting boats in since yesterday," said Katheen Daffrey of .  "Some people decided to keep their boats out for the winter, but a bunch of people are putting them back in."

Before the storm hit, Daffrey said the from the water and secured their docks, checking on them periodically during the storm.

"We really did very well here," she said.

is reporting that their docks withheld the winds and water and all boats are fine.  However, the hotel is still without power and owners fear that without power, their motel customers will cancel their trip on one of the biggest weekends of the summer.

At in Hampton Bays it is business as usual.  The restaurant is open, according to Bernard Miny and the marina suffered no damage.

The Marina opted to keep all boats in the water during the storm, said Miny.

"We have a lot of big boats. We anchored them all and they did fine," he said.

At , in Hampton Bays, Joan, who declined to give her last name said there were some dock issues, however everything is back to normal.

All boats docked at the site were removed prior to the storm and she said are coming back as we speak.
