2010 Census: Hispanic Population on the Rise in Western Southampton

African American population also growing, only at a slower rate.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Hispanic populations in are on rise in Hampton Bays, Westhampton Beach, Westhampton, Quogue Village, East Quogue, and Remsenburg/Speonk.

The census, which released New York numbers on March 24, shows that Hampton Bays had the largest jump in its Hispanic population, which was expected as on in November.

In 2000, there were 1,528 Hispanic residents residing in Hampton Bays, as compared to 2010 where there were a reported 3,897 Hispanic residents, a 154 percent increase.

Westhampton also saw a jump in its Hispanic population. In 2000 there were 157 Hispanic residents and in 2010 the census reports there are 380, a 142 percent increase.

The same is true in Westhampton Beach.  In 2000, there were a reported 146 Hispanic residents living in the area as opposed to 2010 where there were a reported 340 Hispanic residents, a 13.2 percent increase.

Meanwhile, there was a 10.7 percent increase in Hispanic residents in Quogue Village.  In 2000, there were a reported 58 Hispanic residents while in 2010 there were a reported 58.

Increases in the Hispanic population were not as great in East Quogue and Remsenburg/Speonk.

According to the census, there was an 84.8 percent increase in Hispanic residents in East Quogue and a 149.2 percent increase in Remsenburg Speonk.

In numbers, there were 230 Hispanic residents in East Quogue in 2000 and in 2010 there were a reported 425.  Over in Remsenburg/Speonk, there were 140 Hispanic residents in 2000 and in 2010, the census found 209 Hispanic residents residing in the area.

The African American population is also on the rise in East Quogue and Hampton Bays, only at a slower rate, according to the census.

In East Quogue, the African American population grew by 163.3 percent and in Hampton Bays, it is up 89.7 percent.

In Westhampton Beach, Quogue Village, Westhampton and Remseburg Speonk, however, the number of African American residents decreased. In Westhampton Beach, the numbers are down by 47.7 percent, in Quogue Village they are down by 62,2 percent, in Westhampton, they are down by 12.5 percent and in Remsenburg/Speonk, they are down by 29.7 percent.
