10 New Businesses in 2011

Despite the economy, a number of new businesses moved into Westhampton-Hampton Bays.

Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch is counting down to the New Year with several top ten lists. Here's the fourth installment in this series: New Businesses of 2011.

With an entrepreneurial spirit, Chris Blevins of Hampton Bays started a concierge business, called Hamptons Hand over the summer.

True to the saying “out with the old and in with the new,” Agave’s Rum & Tequila Bar has taken over a three-story brick building, bringing in a hip vibe with a modern flair.

For residents who are familiar with Westhampton's Main Street, when it comes to sweets and ice cream, there are many options to choose from. On Fourth of July weekend, Sweet Jenni's Bake Shop – not to be confused with Sweet Andy's Cookies – joined the batch.

While many of her friends were ‘hanging out,’ Liat Scaba,22, worked with her father through high school studying everything possible about fashion and business. Her hard work paid off, as she is now part owner and buyer for the new Silver Spoons Shop on Main Street in Westhampton Beach.

Hampton residents who are familiar with the old Nathans followed by Taco Bell chain locations on Montauk Highway can say so-long to fast-food — Frutti Di Mare opened its doors last month making it the first sit-down eatery to fill the spot in several years.

Right off of Montauk Highway in Westhampton Beach, Big City Burgers has started drawing local residents who say they are thrilled to see something new and different in the area. As soon as you walk inside, there is an aroma of fresh, juicy burgers and sizzling wings wafting from the kitchen.

When they realized what was missing during their trips to New York, husband-and-wife Jamie and Olga Betam decided it was time to bring the mambo to Long Island.  The duo, from England and Spain respectively, has spent the last 10 years on the islands of Hawaii and since 2003 they have been running Café Mambo in Maui. They have since decided to bring the business to Westhampton Beach.

It didn't take long for Kevin McCoun, of Bellport, to get hooked on the Crossfit training model. After just a few sessions, he knew it was not just about working out — it was something more; he wanted to start his own Crossfit gym. He did just that over the summer.

There are changes taking place behind in Hampton Bays. and Bar opened this summer and chef owner, Tom Rutyna says he hopes the transformation will give local residents an upscale, traditional “Hamptonian” dining experience.

Hampton Bays residents have a new restaurant to choose from. Shuckers Lobster and Clam Bar held their grand opening in May and after a few weeks up and running, local residents are already adding it to their restaurant rotation.
