IRS Offers Special Assistance Hours, Open House for Sandy Victims

IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers in several New York locations will be open additional hours to provide help to taxpayers impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Assistance Centers in several New York locations will be open additional hours to provide help to taxpayers impacted by Super Storm Sandy.

Individuals who have questions about the tax treatment of Sandy payments or losses or who are experiencing filing or payment hardships because of the storm will be able to work directly with IRS personnel.

Special services provided will include assistance with IRS Notices, tax debt, tax liens help with current year tax return preparation, tax law questions, return transcripts and more. Tax Return Preparation will be limited to Forms 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 and Schedules A, B, C-EZ, EIC, L, M, R, SE and income of $51,000 or less. However, this income limitation is waived if casualty loss criteria is met.

Extended Hours:
The following locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the month of February:

New York

  • Brooklyn –  2 Metro Tech Center, 100 Myrtle Avenue, Brooklyn
  • Bronx – 1200 Waters Place, Bronx
  • Bethpage – 999 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage
  • Harlem – 2283 Third Avenue, Manhattan
  • Downtown Manhattan – 290 Broadway, Manhattan
  • Queens – 59-17 Junction Boulevard, Rego Park
  • Midtown Manhattan – 110 West 44th Street, Manhattan

Feb. 23 Special Assistance Open House:
The Special Assistance Open House will be held on Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the following locations.

New York

  • Brooklyn –  2 Metro Tech Center, 100 Myrtle Avenue, Brooklyn
  • Queens – 59-17 Junction Boulevard, Rego Park
  • Downtown Manhattan – 290 Broadway, Manhattan
  • Bethpage – 999 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage
  • Midtown Manhattan – 110 West 44th Street, Manhattan
