Westhampton Bus Company May Lay Off 73 Workers

Potential contract loss with the Suffolk County Pre-K Program, cited as reason for layoffs.

Acme Bus Corporation may be laying off some 73 employees, who work out of the company's Westhampton location come June 30, according to the New York State Department of Labor's WARN list.

On the WARN list, the company stated that the business will be forced to close if a contract with the Suffolk County pre-k program for student bussing is not renewed.

The universal pre-k program is offered to students for free in several school districts across Suffolk County through a New York State grant. Among the schools that have a universal pre-k program are Westhampton Beach, Quogue and Hampton Bays.
