Water In Cardboard Now In Quogue

The cardboard water containers that Ice Box water uses can be reused and degraded in 22 months.

From the fjords of Norway to the Village of Quogue comes water in a box that's touted as the new "in" thing on the green landscape.

It's called "Ice Box" water and it's being brought to the area by Christine Frissora, a resident and doctor.

According to Frissora, who serves as chief scientific officer for the small company based out of Cold Spring Harbor, the boxed water aims to provide an alternative to plastic water bottles.

The cardboard water containers that Ice Box water uses, said Frissora, can be reused and degraded in 22 months.

The containers, which are manufactured in Germany are also made from trees from a renewable forest, she said.

For now, the water comes from Norway, but Frissora said the company has plans to expand in two years.

"It's not a perfect product, but its a huge improvement," said Frissora."We are destroying our Earth with plastic bottles."

Not to mention, she said, the health affects of PBA's.

Frissora said since she got involved on the project after extensive research and happening upon Ice Box water through an Internet search, she has recruited family members to help get the word out about Ice Box water - her son, Scott Rodeo, is a distributor with the company and her daughter, Sarah Rodeo, is working on marketing.

Ice Box water can be purchased at the Quogue Market, the Lilly Pad, the Quogue Pony Farm, Olish Farm, Fruit King and Circle M Beverage, which is selling the product at the lowest price $1.73 a litter.

Ice Box, which has become the official water of Dancing With the Stars, can also be delivered to homes in the Hamptons or Manhattan for 6 cases or 500ml or 1 liter size for $75. Patrons, who support local charities, such as  East End Hospice, The Quogue Historic Society and the Quogue Wildlife Center can get a free case with every purchase of 5 cases.
