Open for the Season: La Lanterna

La Lanterna, of East Quogue, is back for its second season.

East Quogue's will join other area businesses that have been busy readying for the 2012 summer season when it opens its doors at 5 p.m.

Stephen Alegria says he is excited about his restaurant's second season and believes that this summer will help establish impressions of his seafood restaurant.

"Since we've opened, we've been trying to define ourselves," said Alegria, who has a background in landscape design.

To accomplish his goal, over the winter, Alegria worked to create a unique garden atmosphere where his customers can sit outside and enjoy a dish while their children play around the bushes, trees and flowers.

Alegria says he hopes the garden provides a more family-oriented atmosphere during the dinner hour while maintaining a bar scene at night, complete with drink specials. He also hopes to draw in couples with a special prix fixe promotion.

"Mom and Dad can stop by for a margarita with the kids and then at night we will have a cool night club scene with live music on the weekends," Alegria said.

Alegria said this season his affordable menu will mostly feature seafood, new American cuisine with some European influence.

"I like to say it is a seafood plethora of marine fun," Alegria said.

The restaurant, located at 412 Montauk Highway, East Quogue, was previously owned by Alegria's parents, but for a period was leased and called Thunder Jackson's.

Alegria said when he took it over, he decided to keep the name his parents' gave the restaurant.

"I know it is kinda a funny name, but I like it," said Alegria who says he intends to provide a consistent service to the community.
