New Theatre Program Shoots for Center Stage in Hampton Bays

Selina Pasca of Hampton Bays has started a new theatre company.

Wanting to give all kids the opportunity to shine, Selina Pasca, of Hampton Bays, says she has decided to open a new theatre company, called the , which will focus on basic theatre skills and improvisation.

"There are so many people in Hampton Bays, yet we don't have a little place for performance," said Pasca, noting that theatre classes are available in other nearby communities, like at the and through the .

"I thought it would be great to have a place where you can go to the beach in the morning and then have some fun acting in the afternoon," said Pasca.

Pasca, who graduated from  and Emerson College and has a background in theatre and broadcasting, said her classes will be modeled after ones that she has done for area libraries over the past several years.

"Everyone" she said, will eventually get a "leading role" in class.

Pasca says she accomplishes this through improv where students are given a scenario and have just a few minutes, to "write the script" and put on a performance.

"It is amazing to watch these kids in action," said Pasca. "They come up with some funny stuff."

And even more amazing, said Pasca, is watching the kids gain confidence.

"It is the greatest thing to see how these kids build confidence, gain control of creating something and express themselves," she said.

To start, Pasca said she is offering her classes to elementary school children, tweens and teens at the Hampton Bays Middle School, starting with a free trial and sign-up date of June 15.

Pasca says if her program is a success, she hopes to open a storefront theatre where she will put on performances and hold acting classes.
