New Mexican Restaurant Opens at Former Trolley Barn Site

The new restaurant opened on Thursday.

A new day dawned for the former Trolley Barn restaurant in Speonk as the new La Copa Dorada Mexican restaurant and bar opened on Thursday.

La Copa Dorada, which means "the golden cup" in Spanish, is a family affair, run by Santon Oseguera and her daughters and other relatives.

The restaurant, which specializes in Mexican fare, features a menu, written in both Spanish and English, with a wide range of choices, beginning with breakfast, and ranging from tacos to fajitas, chicken and fish dishes.

Oseguera said she chose the location because there are not many Mexican or Spanish restaurants in the area.

The restaurant, located on Montauk Highway in Speonk, was home for years to the family-owned Trolley Barn, which closed and then re-opened, only to close again in recent years.

Oseguera's daughters, Mickza and Clanci, said working together to open the restaurant as a family has been a rewarding process so far.

"Everyone helps each other. All my family is here," Mickza said.

Specialties on the menu include a wide range of chicken dishes, she said.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week, starting with breakfast, from 9 a.m. until 11 or midnight.
