Main Street Sweets: Get A Free Ice Cream on Tuesday

Donations will benefit the Hurricane Educational Foundation's wellness center.

With temps expected to hit 70 degrees on Tuesday, Main Street Sweets in Westhampton beach is set to dish out at least 5,000 free ice cream cones.

New owners of the store, Shawn Mundinger and Antoinette Piazza said they are ready for their first Ben and Jerry's free cone day, which is in its 34th year.

But aside from giving away free ice cream, Piazza and Mundinger hope to raise money for the Hurricane Educational Foundation's wellness center.

"If everyone who comes in to get a free ice cream is generous enough to donate $1, we can raise $5,000 for the foundation," said Piazza.

And for the event, Piazza and Mundinger have enlisted "celebrity scoopers," including Superintendent of Schools Mike Radday, several school principals and assistant principals, teachers and the Westhampton Beach School District's athletic director.

Piazza said 24 flavors will be available on Tuesday, including new ones, butterscotch and candy bar pie, but she guesses that most will pick chocolate chip cookie dough, which has been a favorite since the shop opened for the season.

Main Street Sweets will be open on Tuesday for free ice cream day from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
