Barth's to Close Doors on Love Lane

Pharmacy owner says Mattituck location will close doors on April 14.

While Love Lane gets ready to ,  announced that it will be shutting its doors a week from Saturday, on April 14.

Owner Barry Barth, a local pharmacy owner with locations also in Riverhead and Westhampton Beach, declined to comment further.

The Mattituck location opened its doors less than two years ago, in the space that formerly held Baker's Pharmacy.

According to an old Suffolk Times article, Barth owns the building himself, and after the former pharmacy's owners tried selling their business to CVS, Barth reclaimed the space where he previously operated a pharmacy. It states that Baker's owners couldn't keep up with national chain pharmacies and up the street, less than a mile away.

Future plans for the storefront at 195 Love Ln. remain unclear.

What a shame. Barth's helps locally. They will be missed. One more stake in the heart of small business.

This is what corporate America does to mom and pop shops! We need to continue to support our local business owners to sustain them and our community!!!

Southold was able to stop a CVS from opening, why coulndn't Mattiuck do the same. Small, local business will be a thing of the past if things dont change soon.

My father-in-law, Robert Barker - not Baker - took over the drug store in the late 1940's after coming home from Navy service, His father started the pharmacy in the 1920's. Robert (Rah) Barker sold the business to Barry Barth in the late 80's when he retired. Whatever happened after Mr. Barth took control, we have no knowledge of. Barkers Pharmacy was a very important part of Love Lane/Mattituck and will leave a void.
