The family of Donna Sartori, a Middle Island woman who was killed on Sunday morning on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays after she was struck by a drunk driver, is desperately seeking her dog, who they believe ran from the accident scene.

The two-year-old, black and white shih tzu, which goes by the name BamBam, according to Sartori's cousin, Dorreen Obiedzenski, meant everything to Sartori and is believed to have been in the car when Sartori was killed.

"My cousin Donna would want to know her dog was home safe with her family," said Obiedzenski. "If we can find him, it will bring a small bit of comfort everyone."

Obiedzenski said the dog is very important to Satori's 80-year-old parents, who are longing to have him home.

"She loved her dog and my cousin would be more worried about him than herself," said Obiedzenski.

Anyone with information about the dog can reach Obiedzenski at 631-721-6485.

He is still missing and last seen on Montauk Highway Hampton Bays near the Scottos, Dunkirks Deli, Squiretown restaurant, Gators area. I am making up posters and spoken to the family to help since they don't live nearby or even know the Hampton Bays area. The photo of the dog pictured isn't actually him and he has a shorter haircut so looks a little different then the photo but he is black and white. He had a collar on with no tag but is microchipped and he is friendly. The Southampton shelter is aware he is lost in the area and will take him in if he is found so he can get back to the family. If anyone would like to help me hand out flyers please let me know and I will get you some. Lets help this dog get home and give this family some comfort at this devastating time. Thanks ~Leslie

At the very least, I hope someone has BamBam and he is safe, warm and being taken care of well. I am optimistic and hope Donna's family will be reunited with him soon.

searched large wooded area behind main st that runs west to the good grounds cemetery and north to sunrise highway today. pretty thorough search i believe using gps and verifying any objects that stood out. i think this area can be ruled out. hopefully someone has picked him up. unfortunately the pictures most people might see online is not of the actual animal and can be misleading for anyone who may have him now.

Has anyone checked the car? The G-force may have propelled him under the front seats if he was in the back. I would start checking with the car and then on to other things. That dog is scared to death. I hope he didn't get hurt . So sad. I delivered newspapers for 18 years. I know how dangerous it can be. R.I.P, Donna Sartori and condolences to your family.

There is a found dog in Oceanside that looks like BamBam. I believe the family has been contacted.
Leslie Kappel January 13, 2014 at 11:29 AM
The family was contacted and the dog in Oceanside is not him :( There have been no sightings of him at all. The car was checked several times after it was towed to the impound yard. It is possible he did escape the car in that area (near the SH Town PD) after it was towed since it was much later on that it was realized that the dog must have been with her. We are trying desperately to find him and hope that he is safe in someones home and they just don't know that he is missing and desperately trying to be found.

The Southampton Animal Shelter is located right behind the Town PD. We would have had sightings reported to us if he jumped out there. Please have someone make posters in Spanish if they haven't already. I have seen the others all around Hampton Bays and if he is with someone, hopefully, somebody will come forward. I will be happy to help distribute them and put on our website and Facebook pages too. If he is running still, he most likely would be around the smell of food.

would have been nice having that information sooner

I have a question for you all??? Is he (perez), out there searching day in and day out for the dog that was also a victim in this senseless tragedy.. or would you rather just type with no action. Since he is out on bail, wouldn't the truly right thing for him to do is get everyone he knows and strangers to to search from dawn to dusk and comb the woods for the missing dog. I can tell you someone lost one of my dogs in the woods.. I combed the woods for 21 days and on the morning of the 21st day, I found my dog... and he was shot...be he survived...and tomorrow he has surgery to save his leg. Doesn't this dog deserve the same.. instead of typing here, take action... Actions speak louder than words!!!

ps...update this picture to a cut down Shitzu even if you borrow one from a shitzu breeder website.. you have a picture of the wrong color dog in full coat... no one can recognize the dog....
