Hampton Bays School Budget Passes

School board candidates also elected.

The Hampton Bays School District's $47,054,545 budget that carries with it a 2.62 percent spending increase and a $42,508,170 tax levy passed in a 934 to 418 vote.

The budget, officials said, kept spending at bay through several measures including combining bus schedules, concessions from vendors and staff bargaining.

Voters also elected Richard Joslin and Kevin Springer to the board with Joslin receiving 999 votes and Springer 721 votes. Adam Ortiz lost his bid with 622 votes.

In addition, taxpayers voted in support of proposition 2, which changes the mileage requirement for the kindergarten bus to be 1 mile from the green buoy of the Elementary School, consistent with grades 1-12. That proposition passed in a 991 to 356 vote.
