71 Percent of Taxpayers Approve Westhampton Beach Budget

Two board members also elected.

The Westhampton Beach School District's $53.5 million budget, which carries with it a $1.7 million increase in spending and $27.3 million tax levy passed with 493 voters in support and 200 in opposition.   

The budget eliminates 10 teaching positions, as well as funding from several sports teams, including the varsity bowling team, the JV boys volleyball team and JV cheerleading squad. It also calls for a phasing out of popular programs, including American Sign Language and Latin.     

Voters also elected incumbent Halsey C. Stevens, who received 395 votes,  and newcomer Claire Bean, who garnered 495 votes. Former board member Joyce L. Donneson lost her bid for election with 344 votes.
