Tails from a Volunteer: Teen Helps Out Regularly

One of Bideawee's teen volunteers, Michaela Cooke, talks about her experiences.

I joined Bideawee as a volunteer in March of 2011 and it has been a rewarding and fun filled experience.  I find that the interaction that I have with the cats and dogs is incredibly enjoyable and I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction helping animals as they wait for their forever home. One of the first things that I noticed when I started volunteering at Bideawee was that every cat, kitten, dog, and puppy that comes to live at Bideawee is given an incredible amount of love and attention until they find their perfect match. The animals get everything that they need ranging from the basics including food, water and shelter to comforts that keep them happy and optimistic such walks multiple times a day, companionship, socialization and love.

I volunteer regularly and going to Bideawee is something I look forward to every week.  One of my favorite things to do to during my volunteer time is socialize with the kittens, they are always cute and love the attention that I give them.  I love to play with the kittens because they are always willing to bat around a mouse or chase a noisy toy!  The kitten’s antics are so funny when they are playing with the toys they always leave me laughing so it wasn’t a surprise that I became so attached to Marie.

Marie was a tiny gray kitten that was born in April and I was introduced to her as she was tumbling around with her litter mates and mother. I instantly took to her lively, yet sweet personality that was evident from her very first days. As Marie grew I continued to watch her through that she would make a great addition to our home.  When Marie reached the age that she could be safely spayed and adopted I brought my entire family to Bideawee to meet her and as I had suspected all along my family, including our dog, Luke and Marie were a perfect match.  When we got Marie home we changed her name to Primrose and you can find her and Luke curled up next to each other every night; she’s been the perfect compliment to our family.
