Mideast Peace

Considering Mideast Peace and American Democracy...

Last night, we launched The Hampton Synagogue 2011 Author Discussion Series. The authors were Jennifer Griffin, FOX News Correspondent, and her husband Greg Myre, formerly of the New York Times and currently a senior editor of NPR, who wrote (now on sale at The Open Book). Glenn Dorskind introduced the remarkable couple, who wrote the book who lived in Israel for 7.5 years - right through the Second Intifada, and, well, the joke basically wrote itself - just check out the attached video.

In the meantime, we're looking forward to a weekend of celebrating and considering Democracy in all its forms this weekend at The Hampton Synagogue with two special guests from the Mideast. Tonight we will be joined by H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hamid Al-Bayati, Permanenent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, who will be in discussion with Rabbi Marc Schneier.

Saturday morning, we will hear from H.E. Ambassador Ron Prosor, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, who will be delivering his first public address to the American Jewish community since his recent appointment.

It will be especially meaningful on Independence Day Weekend to hear from the oldest and youngest democracies in the Middle East as we think about what freedom means around the world.

Of course, we also look forward to welcoming our own Congressman Tim Bishop, who will be delivering his now-traditional Indpendence Day Greeting to the congregation!
