Special Screening of Esteban Vicente: Portrait of an Artist

This documentary examines the life and work of the painter Esteban Vicente. Born in Spain, and eventually settling in the United States, Vicente was an integral member of the New York School painters, who included Rothko, de Kooning and Pollock, and one of the first American abstract artists. Vicente and his wife, Harriet, came to the East End of Long Island in 1963 and bought an old farmhouse in Bridgehampton, where they lived for nearly 40 years. In the 50-minute film, Vicente discusses his art, philosophies and artistic process.

This screening is sponsored by the Art Gallery Committee of the Quogue Library. Please join us for a reception at 6:00 p.m. and the screening at 6:30 p.m. Afterwards there will be a discussion and Q&A with representatives of the Esteban Vicente Archives.

Please register by calling the library at 631-653-4224 ext. 4.
