WHB Village Notes: Trustees Agree to Feasibility Study for an East End Cooperative Health Plan.

Also approved are events for the Village's Great Lawn and two public hearings

The Westhampton Beach Village Board of Trustees had an agenda packed full of resolutions on Thursday night, but got through them in a record 16 minutes.  Here are some highlights from the meeting.

Feasibility Study Approved

Despite earlier concern, Westhampton Beach Trustees have agreed to participate in a feasibility study for a proposal for an.

The plan, which was proposed by Southampton Mayor Mark Epley, seeks to establish a government-run health plan that will replace the insurance plans that municipalities are currently using.

To bring the plan to fruition, Epley says all East End municipalities are needed to participate in a feasibility study. Westhampton Beach has agreed to provide $4,375 toward to cost of that study.

Parking Tickets

The village has entered into an agreement with Fundamental Business Services to collect outstanding parking tickets in the village. For their services, the village will pay FBS 30 percent of monies they collect.

Events Approved

The village board has approved the use the Village Green and Great Lawn for several upcoming events. They are as follows:

• The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was authorized to use the Village Green for it’s 2011 Walk/Run on Sunday, May 21 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A children’s carnival will be held on the Great Lawn on Saturday March 12 from noon to 5 p.m. to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

The Peconic Bay Medical Center will be using the Great Lawn for a Garden Festival from Friday, May 6 to May 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• A summer Gala for Family Counseling Services will be held on the Great Lawn on Saturday, July 9 from 7 to 10 p.m.

•  can use the Great Lawn for a family circus that will run from July 29 to July 31.

• St. Mark’s Church was approved to use the great lawn from Saturday, Sept. 3 to Sept. 4 from noon to 6 p.m. each day for a Paragon Arts Show

• The Westhampton Chamber of Commerce is allowed to use the Great Lawn and Village Marina for various events throughout the summer.

Public Hearings Set

In its effort to “clean-up” that is already on the books, the village board is looking to amend several codes. In doing so, it has set public hearings on those proposed amendments to garner public input.

On Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m., the village will hold a public hearing on proposed changes to its sign ordinance. On the same evening, a public hearing will be held on proposed changes to the village’s coastal erosion hazard law.
