Blurry Outlook for Former Foggy Goggle [Empty in Westhampton-Hampton Bays]

A new series, asking readers their thoughts on empty buildings along Montauk Highway.

Editor's Note: This article has been amended since its original publishing.  The owner of the property has since taken on the listing to sell privately.

While there are plenty of businesses thriving in the Westhampton-Hampton Bays area, there are more than a handful of empty or boarded up storefronts in the community, a testament to the hard times the area, and the country, faces.

One of those buildings is the former Foggy Goggle, located at 80 East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. The building sits on 1.4 acres and has been vacant for two years. The owner of the building is asking $1.9 million for the building, which features nine rooms on the second floor. The asking price is down from the original price tag of $3 million.  The owner, who wished not to be named, has taken the listing back from a broker and is selling it privately. He can be reached at (516) 521-2309.

How about a B&B? Bring it back to the time when it took in borders.

Actually, that's a great Idea. I would vote for that!

Perfect set up, all those rooms upstairs, dining down. Hmmm, wonder who would be interested in doing a B&B?!

Love the B&B idea. This would help revitalize Main St physically and financially.

If 1 North has to close for the CPI/Townhouse development, this place would probably make a good steakhouse location.

I've been wondering if 1 North will be forced to close. If so, this would be very beneficial for them to re-open the steakhouse in this location. The food is incredible.

1 North will be closing, I believe they knew that when they first signed the lease. You are right, this would be a great spot.

I remember a few summers ago when this place was a Porky's -- just for one summer. It's a great location, and I'm surprised no one has moved in since then.

It is the Price Tag of this property, the famous High Taxes that Hampton Bays owners have to pay and the renovation needed. It has to make sense..if it doesnt, it will remain vacant.

I was thinking that. I don't know that the owners tried to rent it, which they may have been able to do. Selling it is a whole other thing! Of course, once there is a bar there things tend to need more help afterwards.

I agree with ralebird this would make for a good restaurant/steakhouse in the way of a Down Under Steakhouse or a more upscale Morton's.
