Westhampton-Hampton Bays Guide to Summer Camps for Kids

With the warm weather on the way, now is the time to select a great summer program before they all fill up.

With a little less than four months left in the school year, local parents have already started planning for their kids’ summer vacation.

And that means one thing: summer camp.

To help you decide, Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch has compiled this summer camp guide featuring a host of programs in town – and many others from nearby towns – to make the job of picking the one that’s right for your kids a much easier experience.

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, Westhampton Beach

Quogue Wildlife Refuge, Quogue

  • Type of camp: nature/outdoors/educational
  • Cost: Young Explorers: $275 per week/non-members $310 per week, Explorers: $295 per week/non-members $330 per week, Adventurer Week: $375 per week/non-member $410. Summer Ecology Program: $200 per week/non-members $235 per week.
  • Where: Quogue Wildlife Refuge, 3 Old Country Rd., Quogue.
  • When: Young Explorers, Explorers and Adventurer Weeks: July 29 - Aug. 22; Summer Ecology Program: June 24 - July 26.  
  • Deadline for registration: May 16 for member priority registration, then first-come, first-serve.
  • Details: Quogue Wildlife Refuge is offering nine one-week programs that allow children to explore the refuge and surrounding lands to learn about the natural world and animals around them in the Summer Ecology Program (grades 2 - 6). In addition, Young Explorers and Explorers (grades 6 - 9) will visit favorite places, use kayaks and go on field trips. Adventurer Week (grades 10 - 12) will explore eastern Long Island by hiking, biking and kayaking.

Camp Good Grief, Westhampton Beach

  • Type of camp: outdoor/bereavement camp run by East End Hospice
  • Cost: free to any child who has suffered the loss of a parent or loved one
  • Where: Cornell Cooperative Extensions’s Peconic Dunes 4H Camp
  • When: August 19 - Aug. 23 (day camp)
  • Deadline for registration:  Open enrollment as long as long as space is available.
  • Details:  Camp Good Grief offers children a safe place to process and openly express their feelings. Created by East End Hospice in 1997, the camp offers specialized support for children, ages 4-17 years, grieving the loss of a parent or loved one.

Camp Edey, Bayport

Baiting Hollow Scout Camp, Calverton

  • Details:  The Boy Scouts of Suffolk County host day and resident camp programs for boys, featuring a freshwater lake and beachfront on Long Island Sound. Schiff Scout Reservation, Wading River

  • Details:  Boy Scouts of America’s Theodore Roosevelt Council offers a Cub Scout Day Camp  for Tigers, Wolves, Bears, first-year Webelos and non-scout siblings ages 7 - 10. Camp activities include field sports, archery, nature, fishing, campfires and a weekly special event. Bus transportation is provided from centrally located stops in Nassau County as part of the camp fee.

  • Type of camp: Sports/Horseback Riding/Outdoors
  • Cost: Full Camp: $475 -  $4375 based on number of weeks, or  $100 per day per week. Tiny Camp: $150 for 3 days a week, or $50 per day.  Sibling Discount of 10 percent.

Hallockville Farm Museum, Riverhead

  • Cost: $275 per week, $250 per week for 2 or more weeks.
  • Where: Hallockville Farm Museum, 6038 Sound Ave., Riverhead.

  • Details: Hallockville Farm Museum is partnering with Peconic Community School to bring arts to the farm for children ages 6 - 11. There are four one-week sessions being offered: woodworking and old-fashioned toymaking, fiber arts and crafts, dramatic arts, music and movement, organic gardening and garden crafts.

Long Island Science Center, Riverhead

  • Type of camp: science/educational
  • Cost: $100 per weekly session
  • Where: Long Island Science Center, 11 West Main St., Riverhead.
  • When: July 9 - Aug. 23, age level varies by week.

  • Details: Long Island Science Center is offering 10 one-week long sessions for children (ages 5 - 13) to explore different scientific areas with hands-on experiments, scientific equipment and building their own models. Topics and age groups vary by week.

Camp Gan Israel, Southampton

  • Cost: $650 weekly -  $3,300 for full season, depending on age.

  • Details: Camp Gan Israel provides a summer camp experience for Jewish children in the Hampton. Camp Flying Point, Southampton

  • Details: Camp Flying Point, run by The Flying Point Foundation for Autism, is a summer camp for children with autism ages 6 - 17 to develop social and communication skills alongside their typically developing peers. Campers will participate in swimming, art, yoga, music and non-competitive sports.

Sandy Hollow Day Camp, Southampton

Camp Karole, East Hampton

  • Type of camp: sports/arts/outdoors/religious

  • Details: For the past 31 years, Camp Karole offers a summer camp experience for children ages 3-12. Children will get swimming instruction, sports, drama, arts and crafts, and take off-campus field trips. Every Friday, there is a musical and storytelling Shabbat service but all faiths are welcome.

Hampton Country Day Camp, East Hampton

  • Type of camp:  variety, sports/outdoors/arts

  • Details: Pathfinder Country Day Camp in Montauk is an accredited summer day camp for ages  located on five acres overlooking Fort Pond Lake. It dates to 1965 and offers swimming, baseball, basketball, arts and crafts, tennis, and even archery. They offer transportation and lots of fun special events.

Camp Blue Bay, East Hampton

  • When:  July 8 - Aug. 15.

  • Details:  Camp Blue Bay is one of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County's  sleep-away summer camp for girls, provides that traditional summer camp experience with campers sleeping on cots or tents, making campfires, and having cookouts. Campers can sign up for theme weeks to select their activities.

Hamptons Music Sessions, East Hampton
