Westhampton Beach Sharks Move On

Cupsogue Beach will be open to swimmers on Saturday.

The at Suffolk County’s in Westhampton Beach have left, said Tracey Bellone, deputy parks commissioner for the Suffolk County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Bellone said the sharks, which have been feeding just off the shoreline since and sparked a were nowhere in sight on Thursday morning.

“We had staff out there since 5:30 in the morning and so far there has not been any sightings,” she said.

Bellone said she is told that the sharks probably moved east.

With the news, Bellone said the beach would be open to swimmers over the weekend, provided there aren’t any more shark sightings.

The beach, she said, would have been open on Thursday, except there are no lifeguards on duty until the weekend.
