1. New Westhampton Chamber President Named

On Wednesday night, Westhampton Chamber of Commerce members elected a new president — Sarah Mendenhall-Luhmer.

Mendenhall-Luhmer has been a member of the chamber for five years as part-owner of Mendenhall Fuel, a 80-year-old business, started by her grandfather.

2. DiBenedetto, Tucker Seek Re-Election

Westhampton Beach Trustees Patricia DiBenedetto and Hank Tucker have announced that they are seeking re-election.

DiBenedetto and Tucker are making their latest bid for election under a cloud of controversy over finances in the village that started when it was found that an accounting error resulted in the overpayment of several village employees.

3. New Non-Stop Cannonball Trains Serve Hamptons Summer

This summer you'll be able to get from Penn Station to Montauk a whole lot faster.

For the first time in the Long Island Rail Road history, the well-known Cannonball train will feature non-stop express service to the Hamptons from Penn Station. The first stop is in 94 minutes at Westhampton.

Throne-Holst Plans Re-election Campaign Kickoff

Two-term Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst is gearing up to seek another two years at the helm of the Town Board.

Throne-Holst's 2013 campaign kickoff event is planned May 9 at Southampton Social Club in Southampton Village.

5. Police Seek Public's Help in Finding Burglar

Crime Stoppers and Southampton Town police are asking the public to help them locate a man who allegedly burglarizedSouth Fork Realty, located at 143 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, on April 5.

6. Westhampton Beach Village Budget Approved

Village of Westhampton Beach Trustees passed their 2013-2014 budget on Wednesday. It carries a 1.89 percent tax levy increase.

According to Village Clerk Rebecca Molinaro, who acts as the village's chief financial officer, the budget maintains current staffing levels and addresses increases such as pension and health insurance while holding the line on taxes.

7. Newcomers, Veteran Politicos Vie for GOP Nod in Town

With at least one council seat undefended by an incumbent in the 2013 town election, plus majority control of the Town Board at stake, the Southampton Town Republican Committee held its first candidate screening night Tuesday.

30-Foot Whale Washes Up in East Quogue

A 30-foot whale washed up in East Quogue, near Triton Lane, according to Southampton Trustee Eric Shultz.

Shultz said the trustees responded after a call about the whale came into the Southampton Bay Constables office at about 7:45 on Wednesday morning.

9. 600 Westhampton-Hampton Bays Residents File For FEMA

FEMA's deadline for Hurricane Sandy assistance has passed with nearly 600 homeowners from the Westhampton and Hampton Bays area filing for funds — many of them assisted through the process by a small army of workers from the Family Service League of Long Island.

10. Vines and Branches Moves to Main Street in Westhampton Beach

Those looking for gourmet oil and vinegar, will no longer find it on Moniebogue Lane — Vines and Branches has relocated to Unique Boutique's former location at 118 Main Street Main Street.Owner Rita Winkler said she is thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to move her shop to Main Street, just in time for the summer season.
