Community Mourns Boardy Barn Bouncer

Sunday's laughter and celebration of the coming summer season turned to tears on Monday as the Hampton Bays community mourned the loss of one of their own.

Jason Hobson, bouncer at the Boardy Barn, known affectionately as H-Bomb, died suddenly in his sleep only a day after friends shared a sunny Sunday afternoon with him at the popular club.

Cameron Diaz Movie Being Filmed on Dune Road

Movie trailers were lined up on Dune Road in Quogue on Wednesday afternoon for the filming of a new flick staring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nicki Minaj, and Kate Upton.

New Restaurant to Bring Simple Seafood Dishes to Hampton Bays

A shuttered restaurant that has gone through multiple name changes over the past several years will have another new name come the end of June when its new owner opens it as the Hampton Lady Beach Bar and Grill.

Weekly Car Show to Benefit Fire Department

Beach Hand Wash in Westhampton Beach is looking to lend the Westhampton Beach Fire Department a hand with a weekly car show that will benefit firefighters. 

According to one of the wash's three owners Jason Gamba, Beach Hand Wash will be donating all funds generated through the car show, which will be held every Tuesday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. through September 15, to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department. 

South Ferry to Receive $750k in State Funds

The Shelter Island South Ferry will receive $750,000 in New York State Transportation Department Multimodal funds to resolve docking and navigational issues, state Sen. Kenneth LaValle, announced Thursday.

Southampton Animal Shelter Thift Shop Offers Half Off

The Southampton Animal Shelter Thrift Store in Southampton Village, which moved earlier this year to Jagger Lane, has temporarily marked down all clothing and select furniture by half.

Volunteers Donate 2,700 Hours of Service

Some 60 volunteers were honored on Tuesday at a beach party at the Quogue Village Beach Club for donating more than 2,700 hours of community service to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center over the past year.

On Saturday, the Hampton Bays Beautification Association held its annual Garden Party and Chinese Auction at Cowfish in Hampton Bays with over 100 local businesses and individuals contributing to the event. 

Owners Looking to Convert Bar to Apartment Complex

The owners of a shuttered bar, located at 19 Montauk Highway in Westhampton are looking to build a 14-unit apartment complex on the property, but, before they can bring their vision to fruition, they need a stamp of approval from Southampton Town Board of Zoning Appeals. 

Fire District Bond Approved; Westhampton Beach Will Have New Firehouse

Voters approved a $15 million bond for a new Westhampton Beach Fire house on Tuesday in a 286-156 vote. 

With the bond approved, fire commissioners can now work with architects to draw up plans for a firehouse that will replace the 63-year old station.

Top Westhampton Beach Responders Honored

The Westhampton Beach Fire Department honored their own at its 82nd installation dinner, held at the Westhampton Country Club on Potunk Lane on Friday night.

Audit Criticizes Trustees for Delayed Deposits

The Southampton Town Trustees recently received the results of an audit by the New York State comptroller's office, and while the inspection of the books did not turn up any egregious errors, the trustees were directed to make sure money that comes into their office is deposited sooner rather than later.

Save the Date: Raise Money in Memory of Mark Raynor

Jim Raynor, son of former Westhampton Beach Mayor Mark Raynor is looking to raise money for pancreatic cancer in memory of his father, who passed away in September 2012 from the disease at the age of 57. 

On July 28, Rayor is sponsoring the 3rd annual Tour de Pour bar Crawl event in which participants ride their bicycles from pub to pub around the area. It is the first year the event will be held without Mark. 

Whopper of a Fluke Landed in Hampton Bays

A monster of a fish was reeled into the charter boat, the Hampton Lady in Hampton Bays this past weekend — a 12 pound fluke.

"It is very rare you catch one of these," said James Foley, owner of the Hampton Lady, "Maybe you see one once a year."

Former Wicker Store Needs A New Owner

Sitting back off Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays is a former, two- story wicker store that needs a new owner.

Located at 200 Montauk Highway, the 3,300- square-foot building, which has been vacant for several years, is being offered for $1,750,000.

County Seeks Private Partner to Restore Historic Hunting Lodge

Want to bring back a local piece of history? Private parties are being sought by Suffolk County as it hopes to restore the Black Duck Lodge in Flanders, a former exclusive hunting getaway that has since fallen into disrepair in Hubbard County Park.

Snapping Turtle Season Sparks Safety Concerns

Snapping turtles, while prehistoric creatures that rate high in the fascinating category, having roamed the earth since the days of the dinosaurs, do not make great pets.

And residents who see snapping turtles setting up a nest in their yard are warned not to try and pick them up or provoke them.
