Week in Review: Hallmark Closes and 'Pillow Paluzza' in Quogue

Also this week, Susan Lucci helps Maureen's Haven and soccer game held to honor teen, who lost his life.

The following is a round-up of headlines posted during the week of July 8.

1. In The Shops: 'Pillow Paluzza' In Quogue

If you are in the market for a new outdoor pillow or a pillow for a spare bedroom, you may want to head over to Homespun in Quogue.

Through next Wednesday, the shop, owned by Elizabeth Donnarumma, is having a Pillow Paluzza sale where every pillow in the store is $20.

2. Town Offers Workshops on Preserving Historic Headstones

Southampton Town has many historic burial grounds, and some are in better shape than others.

To help maintain all historic headstones and grave markers in cemeteries around town, Town Clerk Sundy A. Schermeyer is offering headstone preservation workshops on July 19 and July 20 with monuments conservator Jonathan Appell.

3. Cops: Bicyclist Airlifted After Riding into Parked Car

A bicyclist was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital Wednesday afternoon after he rode into the back of a parked SUV on the side of Montauk Highway in Quogue, according to police.

4. Local Celeb Lends Hand To Maureen's Haven

One of the East End's most well-known local celebrities will be reaching out to help those less fortunate.

Television star Susan Lucci and her son, Andreas Huber, a reality TV name and golfer, will serve as honorary chairs of the Maureen's Haven annual Lobster Bash fundraiser, to be held on August 22 at Dockers Waterside in East Quogue.

5. Soccer Game To Memorialize Teen Killed in Accident

A soccer game on Wednesday night honored Juan Cardenas, a 2013 Westhampton Beach High School graduate, whose life was cut short after motorcycle accident in Southampton last week

Float Created by Hampton Bays Teen Takes First Place

A float designed by Hampton Bays teen Kasandra Phillips took first place in the annual Southampton Village 4th of July parade. 

Phillips, a 17-year-old, who just finished her junior year at Hampton Bays High School, created the float for the non-profit Kids Stock the House, which is based out of Southampton.

In The Shops: Best Selling Item At O'Suzanna's

Among the trinkets, jewelry and Vera Bradley bags is one of O'Suzanna's
best selling items - serving dishes.

According to Suzanne Marchisello, 26-year owner of the Westhampton Beach shop, the store's platters sell better than any other item.

8. East Quogue Summer Concerts Set to Start

The 2013 East Quogue Village Green concert series, sponsored by the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce, kicked-off earlier this week with plenty more concerts, scheduled this month. 

9. Rino's Pizza Stops Serving

A sign in the window of Rino's Pizzeria is letting customers know not to order a pie anytime soon.

The sign states that due to a business-related setback, they have had to close up.

10. Bagel Shop Moves A Few Doors Down

A bagel shop previously located next to Planet Fitness in Hampton Bays on Montauk Highway has moved a few stores down.

The bagel store now sits in a larger store next to Wild By Nature.

11. Hallmark Shop Closing After 40 Years

The Hampton Bays Hallmark shop, located on the Wild by Nature shopping center, will shut its doors for good at the end of the week.

A fixture in the community for 40 years, the store sold not only cards, but also served as a prescription center and variety store.
