Southampton Town Offices to Close July 5

The Southampton Town Board voted Thursday morning to close all non-emergency town facilities for the day on July 5, giving many town employees a four-day weekend for Independence Day.

The move was a reversal from two days prior, when the same resolution failed when put before the Town Board.

Despite the 6 a.m. start, the "Spin Revival," which took place over five days at Sportime in East Quogue, rarely had more than one or two bikes open each day.

6. Law Will Make Helmets a Must for Teen Equestrians

Teens age 14 to 17 will soon be required to wear helmets while riding horses, under legislation sponsored by local state lawmakers that recently passed in the New York State Legislature just before the 2013 legislative session ended.

7. Two Years Later, Family Remembers Cameron Nicholls

Two years after he died in a tragic East Quogue car accident, Cameron Nicholls' family continues to mourn his loss.

Born on January 7, 1993, Cameron died on June 26, 2011 -- he was only 18 years old. 

8. Area Firefighters on Scene at Speonk Brush Fire

According to the Eastport Fire Department, a small fire broke out about 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Speonk Wood Recycling, Inc., located at 60 5th Avenue.

9. Westhampton Rotary Donates to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck’s Scholarship


The Westhampton Rotary Club recently donated $5,000 to the Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck scholarship fund. Rotary President Chad Vanderslice presented the check to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Board Members Laura Dunathan and Newt Homan at a meeting at at Jonesey’s Restaurant in Westhampton Beach.

10. No injuries in Early Morning Blaze

Westhampton Beach firefighters extinguished an early morning blaze on Wednesday at a house under renovation at 13 Tanners Neck Lane.

Cops: Several Riders Hurt in Rumba Bus Accident

Several Rumba customers were injured on Sunday evening after a bus transporting them flipped on its side. 

According to Southampton Town police, a call came in about 8 p.m. that the bus had flipped on Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays.

'Box Kite' Moved Closer To Dune Road

Those driving down Dune Road recently may have done a double take as they passed the diamond-shaped building, known as the The Pearlroth House or the Box Kite — It was moved a few feet closer to Dune Road.
