Week in Review: Crabs Tagged, Water in Cardboard and Movie Filming on Dune Road

The following is a round-up of headlines posted during the week of July 15.

1. Water In Cardboard Now In Quogue

From the fjords of Norway to the Village of Quogue comes water in a box that's touted as the new "in" thing on the green landscape.

It's called "Ice Box" water and it's being brought to the area by Christine Frissora, a resident and doctor.

2. In The Shops: Designer Bags For Less

Looking to buy a new designer bag this summer without breaking the bank? You may want to head over to Lynn Stoller in Westhampton Beach.

The high-end consignment shop, which moved to Main Street from Moniebogue last April, has bags in numerous styles and by various designers with prices ranging from the low hundreds to the high thousands.

3. Scholarship Winner Lays Out Plans for the Future of Hampton Bays

Harry Fotopoulos, who served as the valedictorian of the Hampton Bays High School 2013 graduating class, has won a $1,000 scholarship for a plan he presented to the Hampton Bays Civici Association.

Fotopoulos' ideas to help improve the Hamlet of Hampton Bays comes in the form of an essay he wrote for the civic's annual scholarship contest. 

4. E Day Spa Owner Launches Private Label Products

Elaine Campbell, owner of E Day Spa in Hampton Bays has done something she has wanted to do since she opened her salon 12 years ago — launch her own line of hair care and tanning products.

5. Volunteers Keep Tabs on Ancient Creature

Over 60 volunteers spent their early summer nights at Pikes Beach, not sitting in beach chairs watching the sun set, but instead getting their hands dirty, catching and tagging hundreds of horseshoe crabs. 

6. Photos: Firefighters Train for Car Fires

Last week, Westhampton Beach firefighters trained to battle a car fire behind the firehouse on Sunset Avenue. 

During the training, firefighters set a junked car, minus the gas tank, on fire using straw. 

7. Movie Filming Backs Up Traffic on Dune Road

Traffic was slow going and stopped on Dune Road in Quogue as a scene was filmed on the street in front a private residence on Monday afternoon.

8. Shock Now Serving Bagels And Babka

Shock Ice Cream of Westhampton Beach is now serving kosher breakfast and lunch on the weekends.

Over the weekend, owner Elyse Richman, officially opened her ice cream shop also as a breakfast cafe' serving bagels, babka and pitas along with cole slaw, potato, tuna and egg salads.

10. Local Celeb Lends Hand To Maureen's Haven

One of the East End's most well-known local celebrities will be reaching out to help those less fortunate.

Television star Susan Lucci and her son, Andreas Huber, a reality TV name and golfer, will serve as honorary chairs of the Maureen's Haven annual Lobster Bash fundraiser, to be held on August 22 at Dockers Waterside in East Quogue.
