2. Meet Westhampton Beach's Valedictorian and Salutatorian
The Westhampton Beach School District has named Nicasia Beebe-Wang as valedictorian and Marielle Ray as salutatorian for the 2013 graduating class, which will receive diplomas at a graduation ceremony set for Friday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m.
3. Hampton Bays Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian
The Hampton Bays has named Harry Fotopoulos as valedictorian and Jesse Dubrowsky as salutatorian for the 2013 graduating class, which will receive diplomas at a graduation ceremony set for Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m.
4. Schedule: Westhampton Beach Summer Concert Series
For the 24th year in a row, the Westhampton Cultural Consortium, in conjunction with the Westhampton Chamber of Commerce, will present their summer concert series at the gazebo on Main Street in Westhampton Beach.
5. Brown Tide Rolls into Bays
A brown algae tide has returned to both Shinnecock and Quantuk Bays.
Science Daily reported on Wednesday that the Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences recorded the brown tide progressively increasing through the month of May and as of June 1 it was recorded at a top density.

6. New $17 Million Pool, Fitness Center Coming To College
Students and community members dying for a swim won't have long to wait to make a splash -- plans for a new Olympic-sized indoor pool are moving full-steam ahead of schedule for the eastern campus of Suffolk County Community College.

9. Meat Allergy Tick's Arrival is No Joke This Time
A couple months after the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement on April Fool's Day noting they would release a slew of meat allergy-inducing ticks across the Northeast – in an effort to get people to go vegetarian – one local man recounted his scary allergy story with the Wall Street Journal, which noted that the emergence of the Lone Star tick is becoming a "huge problem" locally.
10. Hampton Bays Homeless Shelter to Close
A long-hated homeless shelter at the Hidden Cove motel in Hampton Bays will finally shut on September 30, the county announced on Monday
The news came in a joint statement sent to the media on Monday night from Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, who is running for re-election and Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman, who is also vying for re-election.
11. Local Students Take Home Teenys
Local winners included Westhampton Beach's Rachel Rienecker and Jack Vicari, earning awards for leading actress and supporting actor in a comedy, in 'Arsenic and Old Lace.' Brian Rocha, of Eastport-South Manor, got the nod for lead actor in a drama for his role in 'Inherit the Wind,' with several other local students taking home awards.

13. Park Between the Lines, Or Else
The Village of Westhampton Beach approved a new law that makes it easier for cops to hand out tickets to anyone not parked between the lines at the village beach.
The law, according to village attorney Richard Richard Haefeli, now allows village police to ticket cars parked crooked and out of the lines.
