Week in Review: Residents Fight Blight, 40 Rescued From Sandbar and Sculpture Case

3. Cops Say 40 People Rescued in Hampton Bays Saturday Night; 3 Face Charges

In a statement released Sunday morning, Southampton Town police detectives said that on Saturday night, 40 people were rescued from the water or the sandbar in Shinnecock Bay where a party had previously been held and that three people are facing charges related to the massive water rescue incident.

Westhampton Beach owner Elyse Richman was on the road to celebration when she learned from her attorney that a two-year-old village case against her had been withdrawn. Then, she learned that the attorney handing the case for the village said the withdrawal was procedural and that the case is still pending.

Just about a year after  hit, sending area residents from their homes to the in Hampton Bays, the Village of Westhampton Beach discussed plans to set up it's own emergency shelter at the  if another catastrophic storm hits.
